Founder

Growing up in Kalubowila, Sri Lanka, the founder Mr W. Pathmasiri Fonseka developed a fondness in the hobby of having a home aquarium. As he reached his teenage years, this enthusiasm grew rapidly and the hobby developed into his life style. This was breeding fish and selling to close contacts on a relatively small scale. Having realised his potential, he was motivated to think broader and expand to an industry standard aquarium under the name of PTC Aquarium in the year of 1983. With time this enterprise was greatly successful. It was very famous in his hometown growing its customer base daily.

In the year 1996, Mr Pathmasiri married the love of his life Ms. Anuja Iroshani Fernando. Since their marriage, Pathmasiri and Anuja formed a formidable team. With the support of each other, they were able to overcome all hardships during the journey of the Aquarium to the success it is today.

How We Stand Here Today

The history of PTC aquarium (parent company of Minketha Aquarium) goes back over 40 years, having established at the end of 1979 with the sales of aquatic life to known contacts. Our organisation began commercial operations in 1983 under the name of PTC Aquarium Ltd. Having increased our client base within days of setting up, we received several export orders demonstrating the founder’s business acumen. In the year 1992, our founder with great effort and determination discovered a method of breeding the species of pet fish known as Albino Oscar for the first time in Sri Lanka. Our organisation became very highlighted in the public eye and were awarded prizes for this great achievement by the Aquatic society of Sri Lanka.

During this time, he achieved many more recognitions for different types of fish breeds in different events. By 2003 the business had grown to a very successful stage and many improvements were done in services. This continuous growth of the organization required PTC aquarium to introduce a subsidiary. In 2009, in order to sustain its growth a new store in Papiliyana was open. The new store, subsidiary of PTC Aquarium, was named Minketha Aquarium.

Bank of Ceylon, a premier state-owned bank partnered with Minketha Aquarium as its first client. At Minketha Aquarium, we are responsible for over forty Bank of Ceylon branches in a rapidly growing partnership. We have also provided services for organisations such as the Cinnamon Grand hotel and one of Sri Lanka’s most popular fashion outlets, Nolimit. Our client base is not only limited to commercial organizations, we even provide bespoke services to private households.
